Australia has a strong reputation for the use of economic evidence. At a national level economic evidence is integral to the processes of PBAC and MSAC. However at the local/ regional level, where the pressures of resource allocation and budget constraints are most strongly felt, the benefits of using economic evidence are not always recognised.
CHERE research, presented by Kees van Gool at the Health Technology Assessment International (HTAi) conference 2-5 July 2006, examined prevailing attitudes toward economic evidence among clinicians, and those involved in resource allocation decision making, at the local level.
